Editors from Palo Alto High School and Henry M. Gunn High School student publications will join the Palo Alto Weekly in asking school board candidates about a range of key district issues later this week in the first of multiple upcoming forums.
Thursday’s forum will be 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Palo Alto Art Center auditorium.
The League of Women Voters of Palo Alto will be hosting an additional forum with the school board candidates — incumbent Ken Dauber, Alex Scharf, Kathy Jordan, Shounak Dharap, Stacey Ashlund and Chris Boyd — from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Sept. 27 in the PAUSD district office board room.
Next month, the Palo Alto Community Advisory Committee for Special Education, the Palo Alto Council of PTAs and Parent Advocates for Student Success are co-hosting a special education and education equity and access forum from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Frank Greene Middle School gymnasium.
“We [CAC and PASS] host this forum to facilitate a discussion around the outcomes of PAUSD’s historically underrepresented students, whether they are ethnic minorities or socioeconomically disadvantaged or students in special education,” said CAC Chair Kimberly Eng Lee.
Both childcare and Spanish translation will be provided, according to the CAC website. While the sponsors have a prepared list of questions, community members will be able to submit their own at the event.
Another two PTAC-sponsored forums are currently in the works, according to Sara Woodham-Johnsson, co-Vice President of Education for PTAC. A forum from 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Oct. 2 at the district office will focus on elementary education and another from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at Jane Lanthrop Stanford Middle School on secondary education.
