The Palo Alto High School bridge team is flying to Washington D.C. to compete in the North American Bridge Championships from July 27 to July 30.
The club is sponsored by Paly math teacher Arne Lim and meets every Tuesday at lunch. Current members include Stella Wan, Olivia D’Arezzo, and Cornelius Duffie. Previously, the team has placed second at 2nd Annual Bay Area High School Bridge Championship, according to d’Arezzo.
Many team members, including Wan, were encouraged by their peers to join and learned the game through the Silicon Valley Youth Bridge.
The Silicon Valley Youth Bridge, which is non-profit organization with the goal of educating the next generation of bridge players, is where most members honed their bridge skills. The SiVy is hosting “How to Learn Bridge in a day” from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 18.
